Over the rainbow

We’re a little Barbie mad in this house, and have gathered a fair few Barbie DVDs over the last 12 months or so. That gal certainly knows how to make a buck, making films like “Barbie and Swan Lake”, “Barbie Rapunzel” and “Barbie and the Magic Rainbow”, to name a few.

Elina is the star of Barbie and the Magic Rainbow, and she is beautiful. Rainbow fairy wings, a natural talent which sees her excel at Fairy School, and a kind yet cunning demeanour which sees her save Fairyland from the wicked Laverna. (Oops. Sorry if I’ve spoilt the ending for you).

Harriet will soon be celebrating her 5th birthday, and we’re having two little gatherings, one of which has a rainbow theme. So this morning, in anticipation of her friend Kaffrin (*) coming to play,  we thought we’d try a rainbow cake. We scoured the net, and after excluding the plethora of “Pride” rainbow suggestions, we came up with this.

And not to be outdone, there’s a surprise when you cut it. I’m was actually surprised to see that the colours are so vibrant, because they looked a bit dull when taken out of the oven. Now, the popular option was to do 5 separate layer, one in each colour, and join with cream, but we are talking Sunday morning.

The girls loved it. And the adults politely ate it.
