Makeover on a budget

Creating a craft space under the stairs.

We’re using the wallpaper to enclose the rest of the under the stair space. This will be Harri’s hideaway…

I love what you can do if you ask. The first place we went to for the wallpaper said we had to buy three rolls minimum (you know, $1000). That would have left us with 9.9 rolls left over. The other option was one roll for $260, and again, a lot of left over. Roll on to our local store and we got the wallpaper, the glue, the limoncello paint and paint brush for <$100. Now that’s a nice priced makeover.

As for the rest – the table was $19 from Ikea. The battery operated halogen light was $39 at Ikea. The red pantone tin (which retails for AUD $50 here), was 8 pounds at Bloomsbury Store (although it’s in the UK, the shipping was only 9 pounds and I bought other stuff too). It’s a bit of a disgrace that you can buy something from the UK and have it shipped here for less than you could buy it in Australia, but it shows that it’s worth doing a bit of internet research and not assuming that local prices are the most competitive.

PS. Just so you know, Harri’s craft area is always that tidy. It would never, for example, look like this…

(From our previous house. Different set up. Same mess).
